Phyllis Caruso - 2000

PhyllisHas it been 25 years?! Phyllis began working at Camp DeBaun in the summer of 1972, the first year the main pool opened. Phyllis began as a swim instructor/lifeguard and in 1975, after marrying her husband Mark (whom she met at Camp), she became supervisor. She worked 8 summers until 1983 when she had her first son, Michael, who is now a lifeguard here at Camp DeBaun. In 1985, Andrea came along (now a pool trainee) and in 1986, Phyllis returned to supervise the pool once again. She has been with us ever since. Her youngest son Brain was born in 1987 and is now a member of the Tomahawk group.

Phyllis has a B.S. in Mathematics from SUNY Albany and a M.A. in Education from Hofsta. She taught for 9 years in the valley Stream Central High School District, teaching Math and Science, before having her children. She now dedicates her time to volunteering: in her children's schools as a member of the PTA, teaching religious instruction for St. Raymond's Church and as a trustee of the Lynbrook Board of Education. As Camp DeBaun celebrates its 50th Anniversary, it is with great love and appreciation that we congratulate Phyllis as she celebrates her 25th!

Fran received her B.A. degree in teaching from Cortland State University and her Masters degree from Hofstra University.
